Year 10 IExplore Curriculum
Religious Studies
This term students will be exploring a range of ethical issues within GCSE Religious Studies. Topic 1 focuses on beliefs about the origin of the universe and medical ethics. Students will develop their understanding of different worldviews and perspectives whilst engaging with key questions such as ‘Does the universe show evidence of design?’ and ‘When does life begin?’
History
Students will be studying the first of four units for their GCSE examinations. The first unit is the outline study ‘Changes in Health and Medicine, 1340 to present day’. We will be examining the causes of illness, treatments and cures, preventive measures, advances in knowledge, patient care and attitudes to public health over time. Students will be entered for the GCSE examination for this module in June 2022. To support students with the development of their knowledge, students are regularly set independent learning tasks and complete a series of self test activities at the end of each section. All students have been issued with a booklet containing the information they need for this module. They will be using chromebooks and exercise books to complete tasks, including assessments, examination technique and independent learning.
Business
Students will be studying the nature of business activity and how it meets the needs of customers by providing a product or service, in most cases, for a profit. This is focused on enterprise and entrepreneurs, with a wide range of aims and objectives. We examine how business organisations vary in size and ownership and operate in local, national and global contexts. students will learn about stakeholders who are affected by business activity and can also impact on business behaviour. We go on to investigate the areas within a business including Production and how to maximise efficiency and Marketing where businesses need to identify, anticipate and satisfy customer needs in a profitable way. To support lessons, students should watch the business news or follow pages such as BBC news and Walesonline on social media. All of the work is on google classroom for any students who miss the lessons.
Business
This term, students will study the reasons why businesses grow, and the most appropriate method of growth for different businesses, including franchises, economies of scale and mergers and takeovers (acquisitions). We also consider location and siting. Then we move on to the production department including the supply chain and logistics of distribution. The importance of quality, the role of ICT in production and the sales process.
Religious Studies
This term, students will be completing a range of learning activities in order to understand both religious and non-religious attitudes towards issues of good and evil. They will explore the purpose of punishment. Knowledge and understanding will be developed through the use of a variety of learning methods such as discussion, research, modelling and exam skill tasks.

BUSINESS
Year 10 will be learning about the marketing function within a business. They will see that marketing involves identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer needs in a profitable way. We will examine the ways that Marketing affects the other functions of a business and study a wide range of activities including researching the market, analysing the market and developing a marketing strategy through the implementation of the marketing mix. We will investigate how marketing is organised in different ways, depending on the business’s size, the goods and services they sell and the markets they operate in. Additionally we will continue to embed the techniques used to answer exam questions effectively, using the assessment objectives.
Religious Studies
This term Year 10 will be refining their exam skills in preparation for their first religious studies exam. They will revisit key religious teachings and ethical issues. Knowledge and understanding will be developed through the use of a variety of learning methods such as exam walk-throughs, modelling and timed exam skill tasks.
